His work is influenced by early 20th-century modernists and 19th century colonial photographers, and he investigates cultural, industrial, and environmental history in his landscape photography. In addition to traditional landscape photography, he combines his photographs with found objects, historical materials, and appropriated data to explore issues of water rights in the West and the impact of recreation in the Southwest.
